Will insurance cover my visits?Yes! Revolution was designed to work with your insurance plan to ensure you get the maximum benefit. We believe that since health insurance has become so expensive in the modern era, you should be able to use your plan and benefits to access care. Our visits will contribute towards your in-network deductible which is a financial win for you. You also won't have to worry about submitting "out of network" insurance paperwork like most weight loss practices require.
-

-
Can I use my HSA or FSA account for visits and the membership?HSA/FSA accounts can be used for most aspects of the program as qualified medically necessary expenses, including appointments/copays, and prescription costs. Your HSA/FSA may also cover the monthly membership fee, depending on your benefits administrator.
-
I live in the state of _______. Am I eligible to join?Any patient residing in DC, Maryland or Virginia can join the practice.
-
Why is there a membership fee and what does it include?Revolution was designed from the ground up to be accessible to everyday individuals. We believe that weight loss and wellness shouldn't cost an arm and a leg, which is why we decided to be one of the few weight loss practices that accept insurance. We'll let your health insurance do the heavy lifting to cover most expenses of the program, including all appointments and groups (liable to copay/coinsurance/deductible if required by your plan). The monthly membership fee covers services not reimbursable by insurance and/or Medicare, such as your personalized nutrition and fitness plan, program materials, and concierge-level services such as extended-length appointment times (30 and 60 minutes), small provider patient panel sizes, email support with your provider, and their cell phone for call/text emergencies.
-
What is included in the free trial? The 30 day free trial begins on the day that you register. Its purpose is to ensure that we can schedule your intake appointment within a 30 day window. The free trial only encompasses the monthly membership fee. Your intake appointment and follow up appointments will still be billed through your health insurance. There is no commitment to joining after your first appointment, and the program can be cancelled at any time. Your satisfaction is our priority!
-
Do you order blood tests?Yes. Every patient enrolling in the program will have a baseline series of blood tests to assess metabolic health, unless you have already had recent bloodwork done through your PCP. The blood tests will be followed over time to assess progress in the program. Blood pressure monitoring will also be an important metric.
-
What kind of diet do you offer?Revolution Medicine recognizes that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to nutrition, and that is why the program is tailored to your needs to help you be the most successful. The program can range from providing meal plan and recipe resources for those who like to cook, to a turnkey approach with recommended chef to table fresh meals, and meal replacement snacks or drinks delivered to your home. As a Revolution member, some of our nutrition partners may be able to offer you exclusive discounts.

What are your thoughts on the Health At Every Size (HAES) movement? Here at Revolution Medicine we recognize that the BMI index is an antiquated formula. It was derived in the early 1800s! Science has come a long way in 200 years, and we have learned that the BMI does not always predict long term health outcomes. We look at many other markers to assess overall metabolic health including blood pressure, heart rate, and cholesterol. We also look for signs of insulin resistance through blood glucose or the hemoglobin A1c, and liver biochemistry. Some adults at an elevated BMI may have normal metabolic markers, and others may not. Abnormal metabolic markers can often predict long term health outcomes better than weight as a single variable. Our approach is very personalized to an individual, and your weight loss goal is a collaborative discussion. Some adults may also have their own weight loss goals in order to improve their mobility, functionality, exercise capacity, and joint pains. We also agree with the founding principles of the HAES movement in that it is more important to focus on the quality of our food, as opposed to unhealthy calorie restrictive dieting. We work with our patients on an individual basis to customize their overall health goals.
-
Does the membership include weight loss medications?Weight loss medications are written by prescription to be filled at the pharmacy of your choice. You will use your insurance to fill these prescriptions as any ordinary prescription. As a part of the intake process, we will research which medications your insurance plan will cover, and submit any necessary prior authorizations. If your insurance doesn't cover your preferred medication, we will work to help you find the most cost-effective cash option.
-
What about my other daily prescriptions?During your first comprehensive intake appointment, we'll ensure to choose the best weight loss medication for you that will work safely with your other medications. With the right motivation and structure, many patients may be able to successfully wean off cholesterol, blood pressure, and diabetes medications. We will coordinate with your PCP if any major changes to your regimen need to be made.
-
Are weight loss medications safe? Our practice only prescribes evidence-based medications that have been proven to be safe for weight loss, and are approved by the FDA. In your intake appointment, we will discuss extensively the benefits, risks, and side effect profile of each available medication, and help you make the best informed decision.
-
How often will I have appointments? The first intake is virtual, followed by an in-person appointment in our office. Subsequently, we will have monthly virtual appointments. In addition, we also offer weekly Zoom groups. The weekly groups are not mandatory, but highly encouraged to ensure you get the most out of the program.
-
How do group appointments work?Virtual Zoom group appointments will become integrated into your weight loss program over time, with other like-minded adults. They are optional, but highly recommended. We cover rotating topics related to weight loss and wellness, such as functional medicine, nutrition, food psychology, metabolism, hormones, gut health, exercise, and many more. Group visits help build social support, which can help you achieve and maintain greater weight loss. We're all in this together!
-
How does remote patient monitoring (RPM) work?Remote patient monitoring is an exciting tool to actively follow your health metrics from smart devices, such as blood pressure, weight, heart rate, blood sugar, etc. The data is synced to your health record in real time. Medicare and most private insurance companies provide this as a covered service when appropriate. We will verify your insurance coverage upon enrolling to see if we can utilize RPM as a part of your program.
-
What if I don't have time with my busy schedule for an appointment?Revolution was designed for the busy working professional. We realize scheduling and travel times can be a barrier to care. This is why we use a technology-based platform to schedule most of your appointments online through telemedicine. If you can spare a 15 minute break at your desk, or away from it, we can have a regular appointment through your computer or smartphone.
-
Do you work with bariatric patients?Absolutely! The program is well designed for previous bariatric surgery patients to help stay on track. If you are considering a bariatric procedure in the future, we can help you reach your goals before and after surgery, and help coordinate with your bariatric surgeon.
-
